How to care for your Newly Seeded Lawn

Germination time for grass seed varies from 7-21 days, depending on soil temperatures and seed species.  Patience and attention after planting are important.  Start the watering process immediately after planting.  Soil moisture levels must be maintained to ensure uniform emergence.

1. Water lightly several times per day, until the seedlings have emerged and are approximately 1” in height.  The seedlings are very fragile at this point.  Once they are 1” in height, begin to water thoroughly once a day.  Maintain this schedule until the grass has been cut three times.

2.  Grass should be cut for the first time when it has reached 1 ½ to 2 ½”.  Mower blade should be sharp.  After the third cutting, water 1-2 times per week, applying a total of 1” of water.
